Ryanair is tightening its check-in rules from November 10, moving the bag drop cut-off from 40 minutes to a full hour before scheduled departure across every airport it serves. The change affects the 20% of Ryanair passengers who check in hold luggage and is designed to give travellers more time to clear security and passport queues. Ryanair CMO Dara Brady confirmed check-in desks will also open earlier to compensate.

The airline says a 'small number of passengers' have been missing flights under the current 40-minute rule.

The new 60-minute deadline applies to all routes and all airports Ryanair operates, including UK departures this winter and over the festive period.

Last-minute travellers who previously cut it fine at bag drop will need to arrive at least 20 minutes earlier than they are used to.
