Sadiq Khan joins Labour MPs gloating over Trump's US midterms defeat, hailing a 'true rejection' of his 'divisive politics'

Sadiq Khan and a wave of Labour MPs cheered overnight as Democrats swept both the Senate and House of Representatives, stripping Trump of any legislative majority for the final two years of his presidency. Khan posted on X that Democrats' "focus on hope, unity and supporting families" made the result a "true rejection" of Trump's "damaging and divisive politics." Trump, who said the outcome had caught him off guard, posted on Truth Social: "I wasn't on the ballot and if I was, we would have won IN A LANDSLIDE!"
Democrats overturned deep-red Senate seats in six states — Texas, Kansas, South Carolina, Ohio, Maine and Iowa — with one leading Democrat describing Trump as a "lame duck president."
John McDonnell argued that voters had "rejected the racism displayed by Trump" and pointed to his handling of migrants as a central driver of the Democratic surge.
Ed Davey used the results to warn against Farage: "That is Trump's America — we can't let it become Farage's Britain."
