Andy Burnham urges world leaders to unite on the cost of living after Trump's Republicans lose both houses of Congress
Prime Minister Andy Burnham and Ed Miliband, Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero, try their hand at the steel drum in St John's, Antigua, after attending Chogm, where Burnham said his government had been pursuing closer ties with Europe to drive down living costs.
Speaking at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Antigua, Prime Minister Andy Burnham called Trump's acceptance of the midterm results "an opportunity for the world to unite" around cost-of-living pressures. Burnham warned that easing household finances would remain impossible without resolving the Iran war and reopening the Strait of Hormuz.
Democrats seized both the Senate and House, flipping deep-red states including Texas, Kansas, South Carolina and Iowa.
Burnham said his government had already been pursuing "a new approach in the Middle East" and closer ties with Europe to drive down living costs.
Trump said the results had surprised him — 'I thought they'd do better, we had tremendous rallies' — before conceding the Democrats 'did a good job'.
