Sadiq Khan is to ban traffic from Oxford Street on Monday, vowing to rid it of 'dross' candy shops

Buses, taxis, cyclists, e-scooters and pedicabs face diversions away from nearly a kilometre of road running between Orchard Street, near Selfridges, and Great Portland Street. Deliveries will be restricted to the window between midnight and 7am. Westminster council has cautioned that displaced traffic will spill onto narrower side streets. Lord Khan insists the date will 'go down in history'.

Cars can still cross at Duke Street, Holles Street and New Bond Street/Vere Street.

Oxford Street generates around £3.1bn a year but has been plagued by vape shops and phone snatching.

TfL plans to raise the road to pavement level, with the first sections due by spring 2027.
