Salvadorian woman survives 20 hours floating in the Ionian Sea after jumping from a Royal Caribbean cruise ship

A 44-year-old Salvadorian woman told Greek coastguard rescuers she jumped from Royal Caribbean's Odyssey of the Seas because "she wanted to disembark," bringing a lifebuoy with her when she went into the water near Zakynthos at around 6am on Friday. The cargo ship MSC Rossella III found her alive and conscious after 20 hours adrift, roughly 70 nautical miles offshore, her flotation ring's flashing light drawing the crew's attention. She was transferred to a coastguard patrol boat, brought ashore at the port of Katakolo and taken by ambulance to hospital in Pyrgos, where doctors carried out tests that included a psychiatric evaluation commissioned at the request of a local prosecutor.
Royal Caribbean's Odyssey of the Seas cancelled its final scheduled stop at Naples to assist two coastguard vessels and a navy helicopter in the search for her.
Passenger Bob Butler said search teams were unable to locate her during daylight hours, with the ship's captain heard over the intercom urging crew to 'make sure we find the lady'.
She had reportedly been travelling with family members aboard the 4,200-passenger vessel at the time of the incident.
