Samsung posts the biggest quarterly profit in tech history as AI chip demand drives a 783% surge

Samsung has smashed all records with an estimated operating profit of $80.2 billion for the July-to-September quarter, a near nine-fold jump on the same period last year and the largest quarterly profit ever reported by a technology company. The South Korean chipmaker's windfall is being driven by insatiable demand for high-bandwidth memory chips used to power AI data centres, with tight supply pushing prices sharply higher. It marks Samsung's fourth consecutive record quarter in a row.

The $80.2bn figure beats Nvidia's previous all-time tech record of $63.7bn in a single quarter.
