Sara Cox, who took over the Radio 2 breakfast slot permanently in July, has stabilised the show's audience at 6.44 million weekly listeners, up from 6.37 million under interim host Gary Davies.

Sara Cox's debut quarter at the Radio 2 breakfast helm has drawn 6.44 million average weekly listeners — up from 6.37 million when Gary Davies deputised — with Radio 2 overall climbing to 12.67 million, its strongest showing in years. Cox, who spent seven years on the drivetime slot before landing the top job in July, said she has "the best job in the world" and praised her "incredible" team.

Radio 4's 'Today' programme slumped to 5.29 million — its lowest quarterly figure since Rajar resumed post-Covid reporting in 2021.

Cox appeared to fire back at backstage grumbles this week, posting a 'Traitors'-themed Instagram video captioned 'no lantern so improvised with my horn.'

Staff had reportedly felt 'on edge' after Cox called out mistakes live on air and named producers by name — claims her team denied, calling Radio 2 a 'very happy ship.'
