SAS commanding officer is interviewed under caution over Syria killing of ISIS terrorist as five soldiers are accused of murder

General Sir Gwyn Jenkins, serving at the time as Director Special Forces, overruled the SAS commanding officer, setting off a three-year criminal investigation. The lieutenant colonel and two other senior figures had endorsed the team's account of the 2022 shooting as both accurate and proportionate. He now faces accusations of covering up a 'murder'. Royal Military Police investigators also questioned the regiment's chief of staff and a squadron commander.

Sir Gwyn previously commanded the Special Boat Service, the SAS's fierce rivals.

The jihadist had appeared in a propaganda video pledging to detonate bombs targeting infidels.

Hereford troops believe Sir Gwyn bowed to media scrutiny and put his career first.
