Muslim pilgrims in Mecca, where the crew of a commercial tanker struck in the Strait of Hormuz the same day were reported safe after two blasts above the waterline.

The Saudi-led coalition's Maj. Gen. Turki al-Malki said the drone was brought down over the region surrounding Mecca, where millions of Muslim pilgrims gather each year. A separate attack struck a commercial tanker in the Strait of Hormuz the same day, with British military officials confirming explosives were attached to the hull by a small boat.

Houthi spokesperson Yahya Saree called the coalition's account 'false', insisting operations target only Saudi oil facilities and military bases.

The Strait of Hormuz tanker fire broke out in the engine room after two blasts above the waterline; the crew was reported safe.
