Schoolgirl, 12, is killed after being hit by a double-decker bus on her lunch break in Kilwinning, Ayrshire

A 12-year-old girl was pronounced dead at the scene on Lauchlan Way, Kilwinning, North Ayrshire, at around 1.10pm on Tuesday after a double-decker bus struck her during her lunch break from Kilwinning Academy. Police Scotland confirmed no other injuries were reported and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.

A parent said their son 'heard screams' as he headed out for lunch, adding: 'Everyone standing nearby was left traumatised.'
