The London Science Museum has brought its long-running sponsorship arrangement with BP to a close, the partnership expiring on Monday 31 August at the end of its contracted term. Museum chief Sir Ian Blatchford credited BP's contributions with helping to put more than 11,000 education and science professionals in contact with the institution's work and with reaching over one million young people. Campaigners have described the split as a "seismic shift," coming after sustained pressure on the museum to cut its links with oil and gas companies.

BP had faced accusations of wielding an "insidious influence" over science education in the UK through its museum relationship.

The Science Museum ended its relationship with oil firm Equinor in 2024, citing insufficient progress on lowering carbon emissions.

BP confirmed the partnership will formally end on Monday 31 August at the close of its agreed term.
