Science teacher Darlington Nuwertey, 32, repeatedly raped a girl in a storeroom at Oasis Academy Silvertown in Newham, east London, then told her he wanted her to have his child, Snaresbrook Crown Court has heard. Prosecutor Richard Burrington told jurors Nuwertey "took advantage of the imbalance of power" between a teacher and pupil, locking the classroom door and pinning the girl against a wall during a private extra-help session.

Nuwertey began grooming the girl in Year 10 as she was turning 16, telling her she was 'beautiful' and 'mature for her age' after asking her to stay behind.

He was 'nearly caught red-handed' when a science technician walked in — he rushed to the front of the class and acted as though nothing had occurred.

Nuwertey faces nine counts of rape and one count of adult abuse of position of trust for sexual activity with a girl aged 16 or above.
