The Met Office has issued a yellow wind warning covering most of Scotland from 3am to 9pm on Tuesday, with heavy rain also forecast. Some 15,000 homes in the north are still without power in the wake of Storm Boelo, and SSEN crews are working to restore supply. ScotRail has placed speed restrictions on eight routes until 4pm, while CalMac has cautioned that ferry sailings may be cancelled at short notice.

A 60-year-old man was killed by a falling tree at Mid Kelton, near Castle Douglas.

A man in his 20s also died when a tree fell in Finchley, north London.

Storm Austen and Storm Boelo knocked out power to 838,700 properties in total.
