Scotland's coastal communities are urged to stay on flood alert into Wednesday after Storm Boelo left two men dead

Renfrewshire Council is facing calls for answers after its £10 million flood barriers in Renfrew were not activated during Storm Boelo, allowing the River Clyde to spill into streets and devastate local businesses. Scotland's coastal areas remain under a yellow flood alert through Wednesday, while dozens of schools across the Western Isles, Highlands and Aberdeenshire stayed shut on Tuesday as 70mph gusts swept the country.

Reform UK councillor Jamie McGuire said residents deserve clarity on why water rose far above the predicted levels that set the activation threshold.

Someone feared to have been carried into the sea at Largs is still unaccounted for after coastguard, RNLI and police called off an extensive search.
