Scottish dad spends £6,000 on a doomsday shelter his kids think is 'nuts'
Brian Forbes, 52, an engineer surveyor living between Glasgow and Stirling, has splashed £6,000 this year alone stocking two family shelters with enough supplies to last 25 years. He started prepping in 2010 after a brutal winter left Scottish roads gridlocked and shops stripped bare, and has never stopped since. His wife Donna, 51, is now fully on board — but their three children are decidedly not.
Forbes has spent £2,500 on freeze-dried food, £2,000 on power banks and £500 on a new generator, plus night vision goggles, walkie talkies and army ration packs.
His greatest concern is the deteriorating state of the national power grid — he notes that 40,000 people were without tap water and reliant on bottled supplies for a month this year.
'I only need to be right once,' Forbes says of his sceptical kids — adding the night vision goggles are emphatically 'not for hunting people.'
