Scottish Labour leader urges Energy Secretary to approve Rosebank oil field as she insists only she can decide

Miatta Fahnbulleh is reportedly poised to block Rosebank, days after she approved the Jackdaw gas field off Aberdeen. Michael Marra, the new Scottish Labour leader, has pressed Andy Burnham's ministers to back both schemes, citing jobs and growth. Rosebank sits 80 miles off Shetland, but most of its oil would be exported. Left-wing Labour MPs have signed a letter demanding she reject it.

Fahnbulleh told journalists: 'Ultimately, only I can make that decision.'

Tory MP Douglas Lumsden warned that rejecting Rosebank would be 'cruel, unnecessary and uneconomic'.

Rosebank promises up to 2,000 construction jobs and 525 long-term UK posts.
