Labour's Energy Secretary is reportedly poised to reject Rosebank, Britain's largest untapped oil field, despite jobs pleas

Scottish Labour leader Michael Marra has broken with his party to call on Energy Secretary Miatta Fahnbulleh to greenlight the Shetland field, arguing it is vital for jobs and the wider economy. Fahnbulleh has made clear the decision is hers alone — not Prime Minister Andy Burnham's or the chancellor's. She gave the go-ahead for the smaller Jackdaw gas field on 21 October. A decision on Rosebank is due by the close of 2026.
Tory MP Douglas Lumsden called rejecting Rosebank 'cruel, unnecessary and uneconomic'.
Rosebank could support up to 2,000 construction jobs and 525 long-term UK jobs.
Left-wing Labour MPs wrote to Fahnbulleh demanding she reject it on climate grounds.
