Second Labour MP is suspended over £50,000 taxpayer-backed Covid loan after his training firm ceased trading

Perran Moon, the MP for Camborne and Redruth, has lost the Labour whip pending an investigation after referring himself to the party. His co-owned business, online training firm Autoswot Limited, borrowed £50,000, the most allowed under the bounce back scheme. The company stopped trading in late 2022 and later applied to be struck off. He follows Bayo Alaba, suspended in August over a Covid loan.

Moon insists the loan was 'made in good faith' and repayments ran until trading stopped.

Accounts from June 2020 show the firm was carrying loans of £50,000.

Companies House told him on three occasions that the firm's accounts were not required.
