Security guard shoots dead a gunman who drove into a lunch crowd and killed a woman at Florida's Citibank campus

The gunman crashed his car through a fence into the outdoor dining area where Citibank employees were eating lunch, then moved across the courtyard armed with a rifle before opening fire on his victim. An armed security guard confronted him inside the cafeteria, and in the shootout that followed the suspect was wounded and later died in hospital. Police believe the woman was deliberately targeted and are investigating whether the gunman had a prior connection to her.

Around 3,200 Citibank employees were on campus when the attack began just after noon, with more than 365 officers swarming the suburban Tampa complex.

Four others were treated at hospital for injuries sustained either from gunfire or from being struck by the gunman's vehicle.

Sheriff Chad Chronister publicly praised the guard, saying 'kudos' for preventing further bloodshed among thousands of workers on site.
