Serbia is plunged into uncertainty as the LEADERLESS student movement that beat Vucic's party prepares to form a government
Aleksandar Vucic, whose Serbian Progressive Party's defeat ends Moscow's closest European alliance after Hungary's Viktor Orbán fell in April.Jubilant crowds celebrating in Serbia overnight — the snap vote came after almost two years of student-led protests rooted in a railway station roof collapse that killed 16 people.
Aleksandar Vucic's Serbian Progressive Party took 39% and 103 seats. The movement has never governed, and its candidates include academics, actors and farmers. Cardiologist Ilija Srdanovic and ex-central bank governor Dejan Soskic are among its best-known faces.
Vucic conceded on Sunday night: 'It is clear that we have lost these elections.'
The Kremlin praised its defeated ally even as the result deepened Moscow's geopolitical woes.
The students insist Kosovo is still part of Serbia, a stance at odds with EU membership.
