Seven arrested on suspicion of murder after newborn baby girl is found dead at Sheffield property

South Yorkshire Police launched a murder inquiry after a newborn baby girl was found dead at a property on Holywell Heights in the Wincobank area of Sheffield at around 6am on Sunday. Officers had gone to the address following reports of concern for the infant's welfare, but she could not be saved despite the efforts of paramedics and police at the scene. Seven people remain in custody, and detectives are still working to establish the ages of some of those arrested.

Detective Chief Inspector Emma Knight said justice would be 'secured for the baby girl at the heart of this investigation.'

Police issued an appeal for information and warned members of the public to 'avoid speculating about this incident.'

The investigation is at an early stage, with the force saying a dedicated team of detectives is actively working the case.
