Seven children, including a one-year-old, were rescued from a urine-reeking, feces-smeared home in Richmond, Kentucky, after officers executing a search warrant discovered 15 people, 10 dogs and a cat packed into the property. Eight adults, all described as family members, have been charged with offences including rape, incest, human trafficking, sodomy and child abuse; one officer reportedly found the conditions inside so severe he struggled to breathe.
Green Schindler, 63, faces the gravest charges: first-degree rape, sodomy, human trafficking, incest, and the criminal abuse of a child under 13.
Richard Carter, 45, and Sarah Carter, 28, each face human trafficking and rape or incest charges respectively, with Sarah also charged with distributing obscene material.
All seven children have been placed with Social Services; police warn that further charges are likely as the investigation continues.
