Seven children, ranging in age from one to 17, were rescued from a home in Richmond, Kentucky, after investigators found faeces smeared across floors, stairs and surfaces throughout the property. Eight adults now face charges including rape, human trafficking, incest, sodomy and criminal abuse after a joint probe by Richmond police, Child Protective Services and the Department for Community Based Services. One officer reportedly struggled to breathe inside the property, where roaches were also found alongside 10 dogs and a cat.
Richard Carter, 45, and Green Schindler, 63, face the most serious charges, including first-degree rape, human trafficking and sodomy.
All seven children, placed into foster care, lived in the home alongside all eight suspects, who are held on bonds of up to $125,000.
All eight defendants are due before a Madison County judge on 21 October as police warn further charges may follow.
