'Sexually obsessed' stepdad who smirked at his murder verdict is due to be sentenced for killing student, 19
Carla Georgescu, whose body was found at Ribble Hall on what would have been her 20th birthday, was allegedly killed by Nathan Owens, driven by a "dangerously entrenched sexual obsession" with her.
Nathan Owens, 34, made an overnight drive of more than 100 miles from Hartlepool to reach Carla Georgescu's halls of residence in Preston. She admitted him at around 4am after he told her he had come to collect her mother's purse. He sexually assaulted and strangled her, then arranged the scene to give the appearance that she had died by suicide. A jury at Preston Crown Court convicted him after just over three hours.
Owens previously pleaded guilty to making indecent images of his stepdaughter.
He filmed himself performing sex acts with a life-sized effigy of Carla in her bedroom.
Carla was due to fly to Romania the next day to meet her boyfriend for the first time.
