Stepfather who drove 100 miles to murder student, 19, at her Preston halls is jailed for at least 35 years
Carla Georgescu, whose body was found at Ribble Hall on what would have been her 20th birthday, was allegedly killed by Nathan Owens, driven by a "dangerously entrenched sexual obsession" with her.
Mr Justice Jacobs called Nathan Owens 'despicable' at Preston Crown Court. He said Owens showed no remorse and took victim blaming 'to its limit' by suggesting Carla Georgescu had taken her own life. Owens, 34, sexually assaulted and strangled her, then staged the scene. He drove home to Hartlepool and was filmed shopping in Asda with her mother.
Owens tricked his way in with a story about her mother's lost purse.
He had admitted making indecent images from photos of Carla aged two to four.
Carla had been planning a trip to Romania, where she was going to meet her boyfriend in person for the first time.
