'Sexually obsessed' stepfather who murdered student, 19, then went shopping at Asda with her mother is to be sentenced today

Nathan Owens, 34, made a night drive of over 100 miles from Hartlepool to Preston, where he killed Carla Georgescu at her university halls of residence. She was found dead on her 20th birthday, with the scene staged to look like a suicide. As the Preston Crown Court jury delivered their verdict, Owens flicked his hair back and smiled. He never testified and has offered no explanation for his actions.
He persuaded her to open her door at 4am by claiming he had come to retrieve her mother's purse.
Owens digitally altered childhood photographs of her to create indecent images, an offence he has admitted.
The clinical psychology student was described as "intelligent, gentle and articulate".
