'Sexually obsessed' stepfather who smirked at guilty verdict for murdering student, 19, at university halls faces sentencing today
Carla Georgescu, whose body was found at Ribble Hall on what would have been her 20th birthday, was allegedly killed by Nathan Owens, driven by a "dangerously entrenched sexual obsession" with her.
Nathan Owens, 34, drove more than 100 miles from Hartlepool to Carla Georgescu's student halls in Preston, talking his way inside by claiming he had found a lost purse. After killing her, he staged the scene to make her death look like suicide before heading home. He was subsequently caught on CCTV at an Asda with her mother while Carla's body had yet to be found. Sentencing is scheduled at Preston Crown Court on Friday.
Owens had already pleaded guilty to making indecent images from Carla's childhood photographs.
He laughed and grinned in the dock as prosecutors made their closing speech.
Carla had been due to travel to Romania with a friend on her 20th birthday.
