Shark kills woman, 65, swimming with a group off South Africa's Eastern Cape and two beaches are closed

Janine Lochrenberg, identified locally as the victim, was crying out for help at Orient Beach in KuGompo City when her son and two other swimmers pulled her from the water. She had suffered two serious bites — one to her thigh and one to her upper arm. A medic in the group tried to find a pulse, but Lochrenberg was pronounced dead on the beach. She had recently retired as a nuclear radiographer and was also a musician.

Lochrenberg was wearing a magnetic shark deterrent band at the time of the attack.

Fellow swimmer Mike Loewe said: 'She liked to swim solo. She was courageous.'

Orient and Eastern beaches are closed until further notice, and warnings have been issued at other nearby beaches.
