The girl's mother told reporters her daughter had been relentlessly bullied before snapping in the cafeteria at Nautilus Middle School in Miami Beach, where the beating was caught on camera. The 11-year-old appeared in court and now faces a felony aggravated battery charge. The victim's mother has separately filed a lawsuit against Miami-Dade County Public Schools over the attack.

'This was a beat down,' a witness said of the cafeteria assault, which prosecutors are treating as a serious felony despite the attacker's age.

The girl's mother insists her daughter should not face felony prosecution, saying: 'She's a child.'
