Westminster council will axe 520 jobs in its most brutal ever cuts after Labour slashes its funding by £100m
Labour's Fair Funding Review will cut Westminster's government grant from £219m to £119m, triggering the borough's 'largest ever' round of job losses. Chief executive Stuart Love broke the news to staff at City Hall on Tuesday. Around 15% of the 3,720-strong workforce will go between April and December 2027, saving £29m. Residents are warned that council tax rises are now inevitable.
Finance chief Paul Fisher insists the axe will fall on 'management roles and not front-line posts'.
Ministers say five boroughs, including Kensington & Chelsea, have 'historically very low' council tax.
The council plans to lean on artificial intelligence to keep 'valued resident services' running.
