Sheffield Greens defy Burnham's ultimatum to condemn 'Zionism is racism' motion as council coalition hangs in balance

Labour chair Bridget Phillipson has ordered Labour groups in 17 councils to end power-sharing deals unless Green partners repudiate the policy within seven days. Sheffield Labour leader Fran Belbin branded the conference motion 'shameful and antisemitic'. Green group leader Angela Argenzio hit back that council decisions should not be 'dictated from Westminster'. She warned that a collapse would be 'disastrous for the city'.

Burnham called the Greens' policy 'antisemitic' at PMQs and ruled out any partnership with them.

Nigel Farage had demanded hours earlier that Labour rule out any coalition with Zack Polanski's party.

Lewisham's Green mayor Liam Shrivastava still won't say whether he backs the motion.
