Sheffield Greens defy Labour ultimatum to condemn 'Zionism is racism' policy as coalition collapses
Sheffield's Green councillors have rejected Labour's demand to repudiate their party's 'Zionism is racism' conference motion, throwing the city's joint administration into serious doubt. Labour chair Bridget Phillipson ordered Green partners across 17 local councils to formally condemn the policy within seven days or face the end of power-sharing deals. Sheffield Green Group leader Angela Argenzio accused Labour of 'political point scoring' and warned that collapsing the administration would be 'disastrous for the city'.
Burnham ruled out any 'partnership' with the Greens at PMQs, the first time he had gone that far after initially condemning the motion without explicitly cutting ties.
Lewisham's Green mayor Liam Shrivastava has refused to answer whether he supports the motion, despite repeated written demands from local Labour MPs and councillors since 8 October.
Farage called on Burnham to issue an immediate 'red line' against any Green alliance, with a former Labour minister conceding he was 'absolutely correct'.
