Six Flags will add seat belts to roller coasters after Atlanta teacher was thrown to his death beside his niece

Six Flags will add seat belts to roller coasters after Atlanta teacher was thrown to his death beside his niece

Hassan Jihad Ibn Kariem, 42, was flung from the 200ft Goliath coaster at Six Flags Over Georgia on October 12 while his niece Navi celebrated her 13th birthday. Riders earlier that day had raised worries about loose clamshell lap bars. Eight more coasters at five parks across the US and Canada remain shut. Chief executive John Reilly says independent engineers will review every ride.

Goliath had passed its last state inspection on March 16, and no federal agency polices such rides.

Four children were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Reilly said: 'I know trust is earned through actions and not words.'
