Six million households are urged to check their post for £150 energy bill letters, with some facing a February deadline

Some recipients must telephone a government helpline before 26 February 2027 or forfeit their entitlement to the payment. Letters began arriving at homes in England and Wales from 22 October and will continue to do so through January 2027. The scheme has been broadened to include those receiving Universal Credit, Housing Benefit, income-related ESA or pension credit, drawing an additional 2.3 million households into eligibility. Energy minister Polly Billington acknowledged that 'many families will be struggling' this winter.
E.ON Next has already credited the £150 to 565,000 customers' accounts.
Households are warned not to click suspicious links or hand over bank details.
Chancellor John Healey is reportedly weighing a boost to £250 ahead of the Budget.
