Six-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Keenan Allen is arrested on drunk-driving charges hours after his Indianapolis Colts debut

Indianapolis police arrested Allen, 34, at around 1am on Sunday on the 100 block of South Meridian Street, only hours after he had taken the field for the Colts that evening against Detroit Lions in a preseason matchup. Officers found his car sitting in a no-parking zone and observed signs of intoxication when they made contact with him. He faces two misdemeanour charges — driving while intoxicated and DWI endangering a person — and was booked at the Marion County Adult Detention Center.

Allen had signed with the Colts on a one-year, $3.3 million deal just 11 days earlier after being released by the Los Angeles Chargers.

Under the NFL's substance abuse policy, Allen could face fines or a suspension; a conviction or guilty plea can draw a mandatory three-game suspension as the maximum penalty.

The Colts said only that they were 'gathering more information' and had 'no further comment', with the regular season opener against the Baltimore Ravens just two weeks away.
