Rescued beluga dies at SeaWorld San Diego weeks after arriving, the SIXTH whale from Canada's shuttered Marineland to perish

Cyprus, a nine-year-old male beluga, stopped eating on Saturday and died despite overnight efforts by veterinarians to save him. Imaging revealed that his intestinal tract had ceased to function normally, indicating a life-threatening condition. He had arrived from Marineland in Ontario on August 22. Four other Marineland belugas perished at Chicago's Shedd Aquarium, and a fifth died at Oceanogràfic València in Spain.

Cyprus, Xavier, and Jasper all made the journey of more than 2,500 miles in cold-water units.

Xavier and Jasper are said to be stable and still adjusting to their new home.

SeaWorld says belugas often hide discomfort, making illness hard to spot early.
