Xyra Group Holdings lodged its £12.5m offer on Monday, with Gordon Brothers given until close of business today to reply — yet the bid has prompted serious doubts about whether the would-be rescuer is in any position to deliver. Gordon Brothers, which bought Poundland for £1 in 2025, has already turned down a rival approach from Irish firm Martin Property Group.

Suppliers are warning of a cascade collapse: Adam Turner of Bradford firm Highcrest Retail Brands told the BBC some smaller suppliers will go under entirely if Poundland enters administration.

Shadow minister Joy Morrissey blasted the Chancellor's response as offering mere 'breathing space' while 10,400 direct jobs and an estimated 30,000 supply-chain roles hang in the balance.
