SNP leaders round on Prime Minister Andy Burnham as John Swinney insists Scotland is 'not like Manchester' and vows independence

John Swinney vowed Scotland 'will soon be an independent nation' and unveiled a new campaign, 'Choose Scotland', backed by a 'six-figure war chest'. The SNP wants a second referendum by 2031, but Burnham has told Swinney such a vote is 'off limits'. Jenny Gilruth said every major Burnham announcement 'seems to be England only'. She mocked his 'Number 10 North' for sitting in the southern half of the UK.

Burnham travelled north offering to deepen devolution and 'move beyond the old politics of conflict'.

Swinney hit back: 'Some think we should just be like Manchester. Well I'm afraid I disagree.'
