Somerset man who mistook Prince William for singer Prince pens an apology letter after asking him to sing 'Purple Rain'

Sebastian Smith, 22, who has Rubinstein-Taybi Syndrome, met the Prince of Wales during a visit to Sweet Surprise café in Ilminster, Somerset — a workplace education project for adults with learning difficulties — and asked him when he was going to perform. William recounted the moment on 'The Graham Norton Show', saying the man wanted him to sing 'Purple Rain', adding: "Which I don't know the lyrics for."

Sebastian's mother Claire said he is a massive Prince fan who "can list all his songs and knows all the lyrics."

Sebastian had no idea who Prince William was — he simply assumed any arriving "Prince" must be the singer.

Sebastian has since written a letter thanking William for visiting and apologising for the mix-up, with his family's help.
