Son who watched his father being shot dead demands Sir David Davis apologise for 'IRA lawyers' remarks

Sir David Davis told MPs during Tuesday's Troubles bill debate that 'IRA lawyers' were 'more interested in drama than justice', quoting a British soldier. Sinn Féin MP John Finucane, who watched his father being shot dead when he was eight, branded the words 'contemptible'. First Minister Michelle O'Neill called them 'shameful and reprehensible'. Davis has been approached for comment.

Finucane's open letter warned Davis: 'We know where this language can lead.'

Minister Douglas Hogg's 1989 'unduly sympathetic' jibe came three weeks before Pat Finucane's murder.

Finucane also demanded an apology to the family of murdered solicitor Rosemary Nelson.
