South Carolina police close their investigation into Heroes and Nashville star Hayden Panettiere's fentanyl overdose and rule it accidental

Greenville Police Department wrapped up its three-month investigation on Wednesday, ruling that Heroes and Nashville actress Hayden Panettiere, 36, died of an accidental drug overdose. Panettiere was discovered unresponsive in cardiac arrest at a Greenville, South Carolina Airbnb on 16 August, five days before her 37th birthday. Toxicology results identified a fatal mix of fentanyl, 4-ANPP, alprazolam, methocarbamol and quetiapine, and her autopsy showed no signs of trauma.

Brian Hickerson — her on-off boyfriend, who has confessed to subjecting her to abuse — was present with his brother Zach; neither man has been charged.

Ex-fiancé Wladimir Klitschko has received legal authority from a California court to manage Panettiere's estate on behalf of their 11-year-old daughter, her sole heir.
