Southampton-bound easyJet flight from Glasgow declares a mid-air emergency after a bird strike and diverts to Liverpool

Flight EZY415 sent the 7700 emergency squawk while flying at around 24,000ft over Lancashire, about 25 minutes after leaving Glasgow Airport on Sunday morning. The Airbus A319 circled above Liverpool before landing safely at John Lennon Airport. EasyJet blamed a bird strike after take-off and arranged a replacement aircraft to finish the journey. The airline insisted the incident was 'outside of our control'.
Squawk 7700 signals a general emergency, covering anything from technical faults to medical crises.
EasyJet apologised to passengers and said safety was its 'highest priority'.
It came two weeks after British Airways flight BA295 plunged from 37,000ft to around 9,000ft over Ireland.
