Eleanor Barnfield, 47, was attacked while visiting the Ger-y-Nant retirement village in Bridgend on Monday. She was trying to reach the Princess of Wales Hospital, a mile and a half away. She collapsed at the wheel after just 300 yards and hit a wall on Coity Road. A 61-year-old Bridgend man, reportedly having barricaded himself in a room, has been arrested on suspicion of murder.
Armed police cordoned off the complex as elderly residents were evacuated by relatives.
Her family said: 'Mum was the kindest, most loving, bravest person in the world.'
Her 999 call was reportedly cut off before she set off alone.
