'Star' Army officer was crushed by a reversing Warrior whose alarm had been broken for THREE YEARS, inquest hears
Second Lieutenant Max George, whose nine-fault Warrior vehicle had no means of alerting its driver or commander that the rear door was open when he was killed on Salisbury Plain in 2022.The Warrior's reversing alarm had been broken for three years before it struck Max George, Salisbury Coroner's Court heard.
Second Lieutenant Max George, 26, was holding open the Warrior's 143kg back door to retrieve his weapon when the vehicle reversed at speed. Nine known faults had been logged against it, none rated as top priority, meaning it remained in service unrepaired. Neither the driver nor the commander had any means of knowing the door was open. He died on Salisbury Plain on June 21 2022.
Defective safety systems left him unseen, trapped in a blind spot at the rear of the vehicle.
He was 'knocked to the ground and then run over', Salisbury Coroner's Court heard.
The former Durham School head pupil was hailed as 'utterly exceptional' with 'enormous' potential.
