Stepdad who is accused of murdering his stepdaughter, 19, at her Preston university halls declines to give evidence at trial
Carla Georgescu, whose body was found at Ribble Hall on what would have been her 20th birthday, was allegedly killed by Nathan Owens, driven by a "dangerously entrenched sexual obsession" with her.
Nathan Owens, 34, of Hartlepool, will not enter the witness box after the prosecution closed its case at Preston Crown Court. Mr Justice Jacobs confirmed Owens had been told jurors may 'draw such inferences as appear proper' from his silence. He denies murdering Carla Georgescu, found dead on her 20th birthday. Prosecutors claim he had a 'dangerously entrenched sexual obsession' with her.
Owens allegedly drove through the night and walked to Ribble Hall under a blanket.
Jurors heard he allegedly made a life-sized effigy of Carla dressed in her nightgown.
He allegedly left 90 minutes later wearing Carla's trainers and hiding behind an umbrella.
