Stepdad declines to give evidence at his trial over the alleged murder of a student found dead on her birthday
Carla Georgescu, whose body was found at Ribble Hall on what would have been her 20th birthday, was allegedly killed by Nathan Owens, driven by a "dangerously entrenched sexual obsession" with her.
Nathan Owens, 34, of Hartlepool, has opted not to take the stand, and his defence is presenting no evidence at Preston Crown Court. Mr Justice Jacobs confirmed Owens had been told jurors may draw inferences from his silence. Carla Georgescu's body was discovered at Ribble Hall on February 5, her 20th birthday. Owens denies murder, GBH and strangulation.
Prosecutors allege a 'dangerously entrenched sexual obsession' with his stepdaughter drove the alleged attack.
CCTV footage captured him reaching her halls at around 4am, his head covered by a blanket.
He allegedly departed some 90 minutes later in Carla's trainers and with a face mask on.
