Carla Georgescu, whose body was found at Ribble Hall on what would have been her 20th birthday, was allegedly killed by Nathan Owens, driven by a "dangerously entrenched sexual obsession" with her.

Mr Justice Jacobs branded Nathan Owens, 34, 'despicable' at Preston Crown Court, saying Carla Georgescu's final 90 minutes were 'too horrendous to think about'. Owens lured the 19-year-old psychology student by claiming he and her mother needed a purse, while his wife Janina lay asleep at home in Hartlepool. He then staged her death as suicide. He showed no emotion as he left the dock.

Owens admitted turning Carla's childhood photos into indecent images shortly before his trial.

During the drive back to Hartlepool, he disposed of her phone and the bloodstained bedding.

When the jury returned a guilty verdict after three hours, he reacted with a smirk and ran a hand through his hair.
