Storm Agneta sweeps away 60 cars and turns roads into rivers on Rhodes as tourists are told to stay indoors
Storm Agneta has battered Rhodes for 17 consecutive hours, sweeping at least 60 vehicles off streets and forcing some residents to climb onto rooftops as floodwater engulfed their homes. Schools were closed Monday and an emergency 112 alert ordered people to limit all travel. Conditions are set to worsen, with peak rainfall forecast across the Ionian Islands and central Greece through Wednesday.
A man died last month after floods swept his car onto a Rhodes beach — the island's second severe storm in weeks.
Greece's civil protection agency warned people to avoid coastal walks, crossing streams, and securing loose objects outside.
Firefighters fielded repeated emergency calls to pump water from flooded properties across the island.
