Storm Boelo brings travel chaos for a second day as 82mph gusts shut roads, rail lines and ferries

West Coast Main Line passengers are being told to stay off trains north of Preston, with Avanti running a cut-back timetable. Tiree was hit by 82mph gusts at 4am, and every rail route in Scotland is under speed limits. Power cables on the carriageway closed the A1 at Ayton. P&O axed its Cairnryan to Larne sailings, and a tree on overhead wires halted the Stansted Express.

More than 400 people were evacuated from a caravan park near Preston, Lancashire.

The Met Office amber wind warning stays in force until 9pm on Sunday.
