Stratford International is finally set to live up to its name with funding expected in next week's budget
A Eurostar train at Stratford International, a station London mayor Sadiq Khan wants opened to cross-Channel services at an estimated cost of £20 million.
London mayor Sadiq Khan's plan would open the east London station to cross-Channel trains at an estimated cost of £20 million, with one in three services to and from France possibly stopping there. Paris, Brussels, Rotterdam and Amsterdam are the targets by around 2030. A border post, security checks and a check-in zone would all be needed. Khan claims it would bring £1.3bn in extra tourist spending.
Eurostar does not use Stratford, and Trenitalia and Virgin have no plans to.
Only Gemini Trains plans services there, and it still aspires to serve Cologne and Paris.
Khan argues upgrading the station beats building a third runway at Heathrow.
